Over Labor Day Weekend, I traveled to Columbus for Max’s bar mitzvah celebration. We began the day with family portraits at Temple Beth Shalom in New Albany. The forecast was calling for sweltering temperatures later in the day, so we took full advantage of the cool morning light to do a few family portraits outside. We then headed inside to the sanctuary for more portraits with Max’s family as well as with Rabbi Benji and Rabbi Lenette.
Max’s service began shortly afterward, and it was full of laughs, tears, and love for Max. Max and his guests enjoyed a kiddush luncheon downstairs before breaking for the afternoon.
Later that evening, everyone headed to Jefferson Country Club in Blacklick to continue the celebration. Max’s reception space was decorated to the nines in accordance with his music theme, “Maxapalooza”. In every direction were details like posters from his favorite albums, a giant balloon drum set, and even personalized airbrushed shirt souvenirs. The night featured lively games, dancing, and the Hora, and we returned outside during golden hour and sunset for a few last family portraits.
